Franklin Island is part of a Biosphere Reserve in the Canadian Shield (Granite) regime. Located on the east side of the Georgian Bay, which is a part of Lake Huron, in Ontario, it's known as "classic" Georgian Bay: beautiful rock formations and colours, wind-swept vegetation, and crystal clear waters.  It provides unlimited opportunities in landscape photography and is a favourite of boaters of all stripes. The island has two very different personalities. The west shore is very rocky, wild, and remote, with no cottages.  The east shore features more sloping landscapes, and is much more protected from the prevailing westerly winds coming in off the Bay. It's a short distance from the mainland and to visit, you have to go by boat. Access is from Snug Harbour, Ontario.
