Lesson 1: Framing the Image -- the Rule of Thirds No "Rule" is good for all settings. However, the rule of thirds is often a useful consideration when framing your image. 1. Divide the image frame [what you see through the viewfinder] into 9 regions.
2. Place a main figure nearer to positions 1,2,3 or 4 and not in the exact centre of the red frame. To an extent, I've utilized the rule of thirds in these images: 3. Put horizon lines [sky, water] nearer the upper or lower 1/3 horizontal dividing lines -- don't put the horizon lines right in the centre.
