Jasper National Park, Canadian Rockies
Elk [Wapiti, Red Deer] A little known fact is that at one point the elk were extant [extinct in a region] in Alberta. While some of Alberta's endangered species like woodland caribou, burrowing owl and swiftfox are difficult to reintroduce to the wild, elk were introducted successfully and now thrive in the parks and mountain foothills.
