Issa [1763-1827]. One of four most cited haiku masters [the others were Basho, Buson, and Shiki], Issa is noted for the humor expressed in his haiku. He was born Kobayashi Yatarô in 1763. He chose Issa (Cup-of-Tea) as his haiku name. He called himself "Shinano Province’s Chief Beggar" and "Priest Cup-of-Tea of Haiku Temple." Information on Issa can be found by searching with the terms "Issa" and "haiku." [reference: Issa Web Site]
